Neverlands of Utah: Doughnut Falls

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! Winter is here, and so is the cold weather. Lots of activities can be found during this time of year, but some are hidden. Take Big Cottonwood Canyon for example, where I was able to discover a trail, known only to few. But what lied at the end of this 1 mile hike, was amazing!

With deep white snow covering the mountains and pine trees, not only is this trail hard to see, but hard to travel through. Snow shoes are highly recommended to travel at a quicker paste. It is hard to get lost, the trail has an obvious clearing where the skyscraper trees are missing (seen through my personal experience).

Through every snow packed corner holds a story behind each step. AsI traveled farther into the canyon, where cars cannot take you, my eyes where filled with never before seen beauty. The only thing I could compare it to was Whoville, from Dr. Seuss's "The Grinch".  Pine trees where weighed on to their sides from heavy snowfall that overpowered them. The only thing that was missing was the Grinches man-cave at the top of the mountain. But there was a cave, and inside it was something even greater!

Upon the end of the trail was a cave, and inside was an amazing waterfall that entered through a whole at the top of the cave. Its water sparkled off the small sunlight that entered the cave and helped light up the whole cave itself. To enter the cave all I had to do was slide down a ice slide just to the left of me in the picture below. Yes, it was a legit ice slide!

Overall, this trip was the best of the year. The views I found in this canyon, were views you cannot find anywhere else, the waterfall especially! Big Cottonwood Canyon and the snowshoeing trail in Doughnut Falls I went on, is a prime example of Neverland in Utah.
